Summer 2009 at Club 23

We Are Back!!

The OMG Summer 2009 Event is coming soon!

July 11th at Club 23!

Last summer we held the event indoors due to the models begging and pleading that they would melt in the heat. Sadly though we picked a building who's AC decided to break the day of the event and thus negated the point.

This year we are going to hold it indoors again but in a club downtown during the day. Lots of space, AC that works and bar service. It will thus be an 18+ event but we don't usually have people under 18 clamoring to get in and the savings of a free place vs minors... well the minors lose...

ATTENTION: LIGHTING EQUIPMENT AND TRIPODS ARE NOT ALLOWED
The club has restricted the equipment that you photographers can bring in. If you attempt to enter the club with tripods or lighting rigs, the bouncers will pull a Gandalf on ya.

Summer is done, and Fall is a comin'

The summer OMG was fantastic. Thank you to everyone who brought goodies for the bake sale, and particularly to those who donated to the cause of the location costs.

Please stop by and say thank you to FotoFrank for his efforts in obtaining the awesome location.

We've got our thinking caps on, and will be working on the Fall 2008 edition of the OMG -- our 1 year anniversary!

July 12 OMG!

So the time is almost here, on July 12th from 11AM-5PM we are having our Orlando Meet & Greet Summer Event. Some of you are new to our events and I’ll try to cover everything. Many of you have been to our previous events and we look forward to seeing you again and you will notice some new things. The format has changed slightly.

http://www.walker1812.com/borders/tin_organizers.jpg

This summer event is an indoor with full air-conditioning event. So smile about that.

The event location is what is popularly known as the "Cruises Only Building" located near the intersection of Orlando Ave and Colonial by Colonial Camera and Hobby. Some of you might know it as the location of the Orlando Nude Night.

We aren’t actually in the multistory part but the attached blue building as shown in this photo if you click on here and for a nice aerial view photo with directions and notes click on here. In fact if you go to the photos section of the OMG Event Planner profile you can see lots of photos of the event location...go now, leave comments.

Now for the details:

1. The event is free. There is no cover charge. We are accepting donations to recover the expenses in setting up the event. For example on of our generous contributors, FotoFrank, plunked down $400 to cover the insurance for the event, I'd like to be able to repay him. So chip in if you like. Check with the event MOD manning the front desk at the event for details on how.

2. The Event Structure. Basically what we have is a big empty box. If you look at the photos in the event profile you will see it clearly. We will have stations set up against one long wall where people can shoot. Some people are building sets for the event and we will even have a couple nice motorcycles to shoot with. There aren't interior lights, we need more lights. If you have lights or a backdrop feel free to bring it... a couple of interesting props would be cool as well. (we are not responsible for your props or equipment) We could also use some stuff for the other half of the building which will be the mingling/seating area. Chairs, couches, table and whatnot would be most appreciated if you could bring something as currently there is nothing. There is a changing area and bathrooms though...someone needs to bring toilet paper, lol.

3. The Actual Photo Shoots This is predominately a TF* event and not a pay shoot out. Ask permission before shooting someone and provide models with copies of the photos. The models are not here for your amusement. That being said, there has been comment in the past where photographers were unable to contact models in advance to arrange times to shoot or their models didn't show up. That being the case there will be a few models at the event for hire to model for anyone. They are charging $20 for 20 minutes. Check in with the MOD at the front desk for models and their availability.

4. No Alcohol, No Fireworks, No Weapons, No Open Fires, No Nudity. We don't have permission to have alcohol so save it for the unofficial bar meet & greet after 5pm. I know some of you will have left over fireworks, don't. No functioning weapons, if you are bringing something as a prop, clear it with the MOD running the front desk when you check in. No fires says it all as we will be indoors and it's hot enough as is. No Nudity, we hoped to be able to have a separate area at this event where if you wanted you could, we don't care, but it's all one big open room it turns out and since this is a family event we don't want to have to worry about who is seeing what. We are in the works for a side event at a later date that is nudes so stay tuned.

5. Shoot Jacking. Not to come over all serious or anything but there are many rules of conduct we expect you to follow, many of you may be amateurs but at this event we expect you to act as professionals. One thing that will get you brought to the negative attention of the MODs and possibly get you asked to leave the event is "Shoot Jacking". Basically that consists of shooting a model over another photographers shoulder and invading their shoot. This is not a shoot out, all shoots are one-on-one instances unless agreed upon by all parties. If you want to shoot ask. This will go doubly so if the photographer has paid for the models time.

6. Food & Drink. Now to be fun again, sort of. Last time we had a cookout and everyone brought tons of food. That was awesome. This time it's not a cookout. We ask that you leave the coolers at home and the huge piles of food as well. The event is only 6 hours and you don't have to be there the whole time. There is a 7-11 around the corner as well. Plus the plan is to have a little bake sale to recover some of the costs of the event. So in conclusions bring something for yourself sure, but be reasonable here. Plus less trash to have to clean up.

And, while we're at it....

April 20th!

DATE AND LOCATION CONFIRMED!
Cookout! Woo! Bring something to share with you, and we'll do an old fashioned pot luck. Mmmmm... eat all day, relax, network and shoot. Yay!

Wekiwa Springs State Park located in Longwood on Wekiva Springs Road on April 20, 2008. See link for driving directions.

One thing to note, if the park gets full they will turn away people until space opens up. Having the pavilion does not guarantee us entry to the park. So if it looks to be a gorgeous day, try to arrive as early as you can.

Our center of activity will be the Live Oak Pavilion (click here to see map of the park), a pavilion that can hold up to 100 people. There is electricity, water, a double charcoal grill and picnic tables in the pavilion. The Live Oak pavilion is ADA accessible and is located near the playground.

(1). NO ALCOHOL OR FIREWORKS Sorry folks, but you'll have to do your drinking outside of the park. Do NOT bring in alcohol and embarrass us and yourselves. It will make Erica give you her mean face.:

(2). This is a public park and there are families there and conservative ones at that, so basically that means that all shoots on the property under the guise of this event need to be PG rated, this includes no thong bikinis, transparent wet white t-shirts, girl on girl action and the like.

(3). No photos taken for commercial purposes, if you plan to use your photos for monetary gain you need to contact the park manager and secure permits and fees beforehand. We are shooting under the assumption that this is not commercial in anyway. Only money collected will be entrance fees and if anyone wants to chip in to pay Jesse back for the $80 pavilion fees.

(4). We do not interfere with normal guest experience of others. Jesse is working on permission to shoot in a separate area just downstream of the bridge (listed as the optimal shooting area on the linked map above). It is away from the swimmers and only knee deep. Ideal, but occasionally there will be canoes tying up nearby.

(5). All plants, animals and park property are protected. Collection, destruction or disturbance is prohibited. So basically no ripping up plants because they are in your way for a photo.

(6). CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES There will be a food (we're grillin' baby!) and shooting and mad fun, but I'm going to be your mother here and ask you to clean up your own messes. Someone has to, and if it's me, Jesse, George and James stuck with a big mess, you'll once again get the mean face, this time from Marliese

(7). I am sure there will be more rules but basically behave yourself. Lets keep our good reputation. Part of our permission hinged on the good recommendation we had from previous places we have shot.

Gearing Up Again

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are once again preparing for the Meet and Greet frenzy. This time, it looks as though our location will be in a National Park. Word is it's a barbecue, so we'll be consolidating food and shoot into one glorious location!

The attendee list is already starting strong, and it looks as though the projected date is April.

As usual, if you can offer any assistance or have any questions, contact Erica Dean or Myself (George Lue)
